Position Description:

The CHAOS group at the School of Meteorology led by Dr. Aaron Hill is seeking a motivated undergraduate research assistant to conduct research in the area of quasi-linear convective system (QLCS) tornadogenesis. The student selected for this project will work with high-resolution in-situ and remotely-sensed observations datasets from the NSF Propagation, Evolution, and Rotation in Linear Storms (PERiLS) field project to characterize the environmental evolution of buoyancy and shear. In particular, the researcher will use data analysis tools and software to understand how the environment evolves prior to tornadogenesis and failed tornadogenesis in QLCS systems. This is paid research opportunity for undergraduate students.

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the Spring Term as a student (Sophomore or higher) at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status. 

  • Must attach Spring, Summer, and/or Fall 2025 class schedule
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher

Skills:

  • Skill in communicating effectively by telephone and in person
  • Skill in organizing, compiling, and recording information accurately
  • Knowledge of and skill in Python programming
  • Ability to operate a personal computer
  • Ability to accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision
