Position Description | The Department of Celtic Languages and Literatures, Harvard University, seeks to appoint a tenured professor. Candidates must have command of Middle and Modern Welsh. Familiarity with at least one other Celtic language is highly desirable. We are open to applicants whose research focuses on any period of Welsh language and literature and who have a broad range of interests within the field of Celtic studies. Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching, advising, and research is desired. Candidates should also evince intellectual leadership and impact on the field and potential for significant contributions to the department, University, and wider scholarly community. The appointee will provide instruction in Welsh to graduate students in the Celtic and other departments and supervise the teaching of Brittonic languages by visiting faculty and graduate Teaching Fellows. Candidates must be prepared to supervise PhD dissertations in the department on a wide range of topics, and to serve on the dissertation committees of students who are not their primary advisees. The appointee will also contribute to the undergraduate curriculum though courses in Harvard’s General Education and/or First Year Seminar programs as well as elective courses, and will be expected to develop innovative courses in Celtic studies more generally as well as on Welsh topics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The appointee will also undertake administrative responsibilities in the Celtic Department and will be expected to participate in the interdepartmental and interdisciplinary intellectual life of the Division of Arts and Humanities and the wider scholarly community at Harvard and beyond.
