Description
The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for one 9-month, full-time tenure-track faculty position in immunology at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The expected start date for this position is September 1, 2025. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally well-funded research program; encouraged to engage in interdisciplinary and collaborative research; and teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs. Opportunities to teach in the veterinary professional program are available. Candidates whose research focuses on immune cell interactions, immune response regulation, immunometabolism, immune responses to pathogens, or immunotherapy to cancer and other chronic diseases are especially encouraged to apply. The successful applicant must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
Key responsibilities of the position include 1) conducting competitively and extramurally funded cutting-edge research in immunology; 2) developing and teaching courses related to immunology; 3) mentoring and advising of research trainees (undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, DVM students, DVM residents); 4) collaborating with colleagues within the department and across disciplines to promote interdisciplinary research and education; and 5) engaging in service activities within the institution and the broader scientific community.
The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology includes 44 faculty members with diverse backgrounds and research interests. Research focus in the college includes Infectious Diseases and Biodefense; Biomedical Genomics; Veterinary Clinical Research; Cardiovascular Sciences; Neuroscience; Reproductive Biology; and Toxicology, Oncology, and Environmental Health Sciences. The Department strongly supports collaborative research activity and is a role model for “One Health’ through its research affiliations with a variety of sister institutions, including the Texas A&M Health Science Center, Texas Medical Center, the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, the Texas Heart Institute, and the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. TAMU boasts of state-of-the-art core facilities, including the AgBSL-3 Texas A&M Global Health Research Complex (https://ghrc.tamu.edu/ ) with capabilities to conduct large sample size experiments from small and large animals. Excellent research core resources, including a flow cytometry laboratory (https://vtpb.tamu.edu/flow-cytometry/ ), Image Analysis Lab (https://vetmed.tamu.edu/ial/ ), and a live animal translational imaging center (https://tips.tamu.edu/ ) are available within the college. Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in immunology or other related field with a research emphasis on immunology. Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor must have an established, federally funded research program. Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor must have a successful postdoctoral training experience with a superb record of research excellence and strong potential for obtaining competitive federal grants to support their research. A strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and evidence of potential for teaching and mentorship are also required.
