About Us
The Harper Cancer Research Institute (HCRI), a unit of ND research dedicated to conducting innovative and integrative research that confronts the complex challenges of cancer, is looking for current students or recent graduates of Notre Dame, St. Mary’s, or Holy Cross College to oversee its Research Cures Cancer Corps (RC3) high school residential program on weekends and evenings from June 8 through August 1, 2025.
Position Description
The RC3 Summer Coordinators are integral to the University of Notre Dame’s summer research program administered by the HCRI. Coordinators assist our high school student participants with residence hall life. Applicants must be willing to live on-campus during the program and serve on evenings and weekends according to the University policy for the supervision of minors. The RC3 program runs from June 9 to August 1, 2025.
RC3 Summer Coordinators work with students and organizers of the HCRI’s RC3 program. They assist in establishing an environment in the residence halls that supports the student’s educational and professional objectives. RC3 Summer Coordinators must always conduct themselves honestly, conscientiously, and professionally. They are expected to support, enforce, and personally abide by all University and Residential Life regulations and policies outlined in du Lac, the student handbook, and interpret them as necessary.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Work with other staff members and RC3 program administrators to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Directly supervise up to six high school program participants in residence halls and on campus throughout the 8-week summer program; Encourage cooperation and healthy relationships between the program participants.
  • Assist with facilitating extracurricular activities and events.
  • Maintain an on-duty presence during nights and weekends.
  • Serve as a resource, mentor, role model, authoritative figure, and University representative.
  • Support, enforce, and abide by all University and RC3 program regulations and policies.
  • Maintain flexibility for other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Requirements
Must be a current ND/SMC/HCC student in good standing (or a recent graduate), a positive role model for the high school students, have a positive attitude and patience, and be knowledgeable about the University. RC3 Summer Coordinators must follow ALL University guidelines for working with minors and pass a background check.

Conditions of Employment

  • RC3 Summer Coordinators are expected to remain on campus for the duration of training and programming.
  • RC3 Summer Coordinators must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to drive students in university-provided vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A positive attitude, good work ethic, team-oriented, and creative mind.
  • Friendly demeanor and positive mindset towards student participants who may be away from home for the first time is a must!
  • Serve as a mentor and adult presence to students, offering advice and personal support as needed.
  • Regularly report maintenance, security, health, and safety issues or concerns to HCRI staff.
  • All behavioral conduct must align with Residential Life expectations.
  • A desire for every RC3 participant to have an amazing Notre Dame experience.

  • A demonstrated interest in working with high school students in a residential college environment.
  • Student leadership experience is preferred but not required.
  • Must be capable of working both independently as a self-starter and within a team, as well as the ability to work cooperatively to coordinate events and planned activities.
  • Previous residence hall staff and/or conference and event staff experience is a plus, but not required.
