Job Summary

An assistant for visually impaired students would be required to perform the following tasks:

  • Reading aloud materials such as textbooks, slides, and other classroom materials
  • Describe visual information (verbally explaining visual elements like diagrams, graphs, images or classroom demonstrations).
  • Assist students with using assistive technology such as screen readers. magnification software or specialized computer programs
  • Communication support, such as facilitating communication between the student and instructors.
  • Work closely with the visually impaired student and their instructors to develop a support plan
  • Confidentiality, which entails maintaining students privacy
  • Tutor student with various subjects, simplifying complex topics. subjects include: software engineering, ethics, geology, math, etc.
  • Create and describe diagrams, and assist with assignment editing and refinement.
  • Provide hands-on assistance with assignments and software engineering projects.
  • Proctor, scribe, and read exams to ensure equitable testing conditions.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes .
