Join the forefront of groundbreaking research at the City of Hope , where we're changing lives and making a real difference in the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. Our dedicated and compassionate faculty and staff are driven by a common mission: Contribute to innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases, shaping the future of medicine through cutting-edge research.
City of Hope is in search of a talented Staff Scientist to join a new and growing translational research laboratory focused on understanding the determinants of response and resistance to immune-based therapies in lymphoid malignancies. The Staff Scientist will play a foundational role in shaping a dynamic, collaborative, and high-impact research environment. Our research centers on cutting-edge multimodal cell-free DNA (cfDNA) profiling to identify molecular determinants of treatment response, and on leveraging patient samples and preclinical models to understand how these factors shape the tumor microenvironment and drive therapeutic resistance.
The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in molecular biology, immunology, and/or bioinformatics to help advance these research goals. The Staff Scientist will be responsible for the development and execution of major research projects, as well as the supervision and mentorship of junior laboratory staff. They will also be expected to collaborate with other researchers and make significant, original contributions toward the laboratory’s scientific aims. Strong communication skills and fluency in English (both spoken and written) are essential in order facilitate the Staff Scientist’s role in presenting research data, writing manuscripts and preparing grant applications.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Bring strong expertise in molecular biology, immunology, and/or bioinformatics to help advance these research goals.
- Be responsible for the development and execution of major research projects, as well as the supervision and mentorship of junior laboratory staff.
- Be expected to collaborate with other researchers and make significant, original contributions toward the laboratory’s scientific aims.
Your qualifications should include:
- The Staff Scientist must possess, at a minimum, the U.S. equivalent Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline, and will often have a Ph.D. or other doctoral level degree.
- Strong communication skills and fluency in English (both spoken and written) are essential in order facilitate the Staff Scientist’s role in presenting research data, writing manuscripts and preparing grant applications.
Preferred qualifications:
- PhD in Cancer Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or a related field as well as 3+ years of postdoctoral or equivalent experience in translational oncology research.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following areas:
1. Molecular Biology Techniques
• Next-generation sequencing, from nucleic acid extraction to library preparation and sequencing
• Quantitative PCR (qPCR) and Western blotting
• Gene editing using CRISPR/Cas9
2. Cellular Immunology Techniques
• Multi-parameter flow cytometry
• Cell culture of mouse and human cells, including primary cells and established cell lines
• Microscopy-based spatial deconvolution and/or spatial transcriptomics approaches
3. Animal Models
• Experience with syngeneic and transplantable tumor models
• Familiarity with genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) and animal husbandry
