Position Summary
This position is for a SIMS scientist to oversee operation of the 7f/geo instruments at WashU, conducting original research and facilitating research of internal users and collaborators. In addition, the scientist will mentor WashU faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates in SIMS techniques and do the same for external visitors.
Collaborates on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operate and conduct research on the Cameca ims7f/geo SIMS instrument.
- Process data and write up the results for proposals and publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Develop hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
- Develop analytical protocols for elemental and isotopic analysis on the SIMS.
- Schedule instrument use, maintain usage records, and invoice for use to recoup laboratory costs.
- Comply with established safety procedures and maintain required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Geochemistry, Cosmochemistry, Materials Science or related field that made use of secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) or similar techniques.
- Experience with Cameca f-series SIMS instruments and experience with complementary instrumentation (e.g., SEM/microprobe/nanoSIMS/Atom Probe) is highly desired.

Salary Range
$63,400.00 - $115,000.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
