Position Highlights

The Department of Otolaryngology is seeking applicants for a temporary, part-time Research Technician position. The Research Technician will work with Dr. Eugene Chang on his NSF grant to assist in the conversion of 2-dimensional DICOM images into 3-dimensional UNITY environment. The incumbent will also develop software for surgical simulation.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Convert 2D DICOM images into interactive 3D models within the UNITY environment, ensuring high-quality visual accuracy for surgical simulations, and troubleshoot and optimize the modeling process as needed.
  • Develop and refine procedures and techniques for creating immersive surgical simulation environments in UNITY.
  • Assist in the creation and development of immersive software environments by collaborating with the research & technical team to integrate hardware and software components that simulate surgical procedures for training and educational purposes.
  • Provide technical support during the preparation and demonstration of the surgical simulator to both internal and external stakeholders, providing expert technical support and troubleshooting as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering and life sciences.
  • Strong background in computer programming and familiarity with software development in environments such as coding in UNITY.
