Position Highlights

The Department of Surgery is seeking a motivated Research Technician I to support research projects focused on wound healing, tissue regeneration, and advanced therapeutics. This entry-level position is ideal for candidates looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, translational research environment.

The technician will assist with laboratory experiments, data collection, and general lab maintenance, contributing to studies aimed at advancing our understanding of wound repair and developing novel therapies.

Duties & Responsibilities

Research Support:

  • Perform routine laboratory experiments under supervision, including cell culture, histology, molecular biology assays (e.g., Flow Cytometry sample preparation), and microscopy.
  • Assist in animal studies under supervision (murine models), including husbandry, monitoring, and procedures under IACUC-approved protocols.
  • Collect and process tissue, blood, and other samples.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, procedures, and results in laboratory notebooks and databases.

Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Support data acquisition and data entry.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and principal investigators to support ongoing projects.
  • Attend and participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and departmental seminars.

Laboratory Maintenance:

  • Prepare reagents, media, and other supplies necessary for experiments.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper operation and cleanliness.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, biosafety protocols, and institutional guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques (pipetting, centrifugation, microscopy, etc.).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and follow protocols carefully.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with some cell culture techniques, molecular biology assays, or animal models of research.
  • Enthusiasm for wound healing research, regenerative medicine, and translational science.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or a related field.
  • Previous research or lab experience (through coursework, internships, or employment) is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working under laboratory safety protocols (e.g., BSL-2 procedures).
  • Experience at a previous research or lab experience (through coursework, internships, or employment) is preferred but not required.
