The Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is the largest department in the Cockrell School of Engineering with more than 2,500 students and 80 faculty. Purpose 

The purpose of this position is to carry out advanced scientific research in the area of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning and its applications to cyber-physical systems, involving new materials development and evaluation. To develop research proposals for acquiring funding from external sources. To train and mentor graduate students.  


Responsibilities 

  • Conduct research and analysis on research projects on Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning and its applications to cyber-physical systems and other related fields.

  • Document the research findings: submit project reports on a timely manner and submit research papers to journals and conferences.

  • Develop research proposals for external funding opportunities.

  • Train and mentor students.


 


Required Qualifications 

  • A doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline and at least 5 years of experience.

  • A strong record of peer-reviewed publications and demonstrated experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary research teams. 

  • A minimum of five years of applicable experience.

  • Extensive research experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning, ideally with applications in power systems or smart grids. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

 


Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. 


 


Preferred Qualifications 

  • In-depth expertise in trustworthy AI, including but not limited to adversarial training, robustness, and formal verification methods. 

  • Demonstrated interest and involvement in multi-institutional or multi-disciplinary research initiatives. 

  • A proven track record of effective collaboration across research teams and projects. 

  • Experience in mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students. 



Salary Range 

$140,000 + depending on qualifications 


 


Working Conditions 

  • Standard office environment. 

  • Flexible or hybrid work arrangements available. 

  • Occasional evening, weekend, or overtime work may be required to meet project deadlines. 

  • Possible travel within and outside the state for research collaboration and conferences. 

  • May work around electrical and mechanical hazards.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
