RESEARCH ASST I (Student/Work Study) - Compu Medicine & Biomech (CMB) Lab

The Computational Medicine and Biomechanics (CMB) Lab, https://aboelkassemlab.org/ invites applications for a Research Assistant position with flexible start dates between June and August 2025. The lab is housed within the College of Innovation and Technology at the University of Michigan-Flint. Our research focuses on leveraging computational and experimental methods to address challenges related to cardiovascular diseases, cardiac valvular mechanics, and biomicrofluidics. We also employ microfluidic techniques to investigate the underlying mechanisms and behavior of motor proteins and sperm locomotion. • Perform a literature review about the subject matter
• Build the microfluidics experimental setup
• Perform a series of experiments in the broader area of microfluidics
• Collect in vitro data from previously published studies for validation
• Perform experiments at any of the UM campuses in our collaborators' labs
• Analyze the data and results
• Prepare manuscripts, technical reports, posters, and presentations

• Undergraduate student (junior or senior) with skills relevant to biology, anatomy, chemistry, and physics (preferably a premedical or medical student)
• Previous experience in wet-lab research or hospital-based cardiovascular research preferred
• Demonstrated expertise in data collection, analysis, and characterization techniques
• Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team
• Strong interest in biomedical research and scientific problem-solving

Knowledge of cardiac biology and motor proteins is a plus, but not required.

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
