Position Summary
University of Idaho Architecture Program invites applications to apply for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor based in Moscow. We seek educators who are enthusiastic about architecture, excited to teach design, love working with students, have a strong desire to work collaboratively, demonstrate an ability to do high-quality research, and are determined to make a difference in the world.
All candidates should demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and graphic design communication skills.
Emphasis: Design + Technique
The primary focus of this search is for a candidate that is adept in the manipulation, deployment, and refinement of ecologically minded architectural assemblies. In addition to a core teaching role in our seamless professional degree program, the successful candidate will be prepared to disseminate high-level research in areas such as environmental building design, architectural design conceived as technical execution, and novel approaches to technical education.
As a program, we thrive on our studio faculty’s diverse interests. Candidates who seek knowledge ranging from the poetic implications of building assemblies in design, to the impacts of socio/historical/cultural/political factors on design, to the connections between theory and making, to the potential of advanced graphic communication to propel design thinking will be seen to add meaningful breadth to our studio faculty.
The successful faculty candidate will communicate the power of effective design in their work, be able to discuss the intellectual investments of both their work and their design pedagogy and provide examples of innovative design teaching and research. Successful candidates will also be able to articulate a clear research agenda and demonstrate a commitment to producing peer-reviewed work. We are particularly interested in candidates that fortify and extend current UI Architecture Department strengths in hands-on education, architectural outreach, and design/build explorations.
Finally, we hold in the highest regard those candidates who not only exemplify the qualities described above, but who are energetic, collegial, and highly motivated to contribute to the greater good of a successful and dynamic architecture department.
Responsibilities:
(1) Teaching design studios, required lecture courses, and seminars at undergraduate and graduate levels; (2) producing peer-reviewed scholarship and/or creative work, possibly critical architectural practice; (3) performing service through program, college, and university committees as well as service beyond the university.
