The Opportunity:

This position will administer radiation treatments, including stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), to canine and feline (and occasionally other species) patients under the supervision of a board‐certified veterinary radiation oncologist. WSU provides the highest level of care and service to animal patients and their families within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. We are equipped with a new Elekta Infinity Linear accelerator, and we use the Monaco system for treatment planning. The applicant would be expected to position patients of all sizes and shapes and to accurately deliver the prescribed course of radiation therapy. Additional responsibilities will include plan Quality Assurance (QA), thorough documentation of cases, and may include helping with planning Computed Tomography (CT) setups. The applicant may also be asked to hold patients for anesthesia induction, observe patients post anesthesia until they are awake and assist with monitor medical procures (blood draws, obtaining small biopsies or fine needle aspirates of masses). A high level of communication and commitment to teamwork is desired.

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary:

$4,517 to $6,077 | Range 51, (Steps A-M) | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28 .
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered as a radiation therapy technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent organization AND six months of experience in one or more specialized radiation therapy areas; OR equivalent education/experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience as a Radiation Technologist.

  • Training in dosimetry to help develop treatment plans. This could be one year of on-the-job training in dosimetry under the supervision of a dosimetrist, medical physicist or radiation oncologist. Or highly preferred completion of a program in Medical Dosimetry recognized by the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Desire to work with animals and owners of animals.

  • Desire to work with veterinary technicians to help with patient care.

  • Desire to work in a training atmosphere interacting with student and residents.
