Assistant Professor of Practice in Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics in the College of Science at Purdue University invites applications for Professor of Practice in Mathematics.  The appointment will be at the level of Assistant Professor of Practice. One of the positions may be focused on teaching mathematics education classes.

These positions are non-tenure track faculty positions with multi-year contracts, a promotion track, and a focus on undergraduate teaching and course administration.  Duties will typically consist of teaching 5 courses each academic year, including large-lecture courses, course coordination, and/or other related administrative activities. Successful applicants will have a documented record of excellence in teaching, have the ability to teach a range of courses in the undergraduate curriculum, have enthusiasm for teaching, mentoring, and interacting with undergraduate students, (including students traditionally underrepresented in mathematics), be willing to observe classes and offer teaching advice to new instructors. Candidates should specifically note in their application any experience they have had with teaching large-lecture classes at the level of calculus or above, coordinating learning management or online homework systems, implementing innovative teaching methods (flipped classrooms, inquiry-based learning, etc.), or teaching mathematics education classes.

Candidates must have a PhD (or its equivalent) in mathematics or a closely related field. Teaching experience after obtaining a PhD will be viewed favorably.
