Job Summary
A Postdoctoral
Research Associate position is immediately available on Prof. Derek Patton’s research
team in the School of Polymer Science and Engineering at the University of Southern
Mississippi. The candidate will take a leading role in the development of biobased building blocks
for reprocessable polymeric materials. This project is collaborative with the
University of Delaware and the US Army DEVCOM Chemical Biological Center.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in polymer science and engineering, polymer chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering or closely related fields
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge and expertise in multi-step organic synthesis, purification, and related laboratory techniques
- Knowledge and expertise in mechanical and viscoelastic characterization of polymers
- Knowledge and expertise in polymer processing and manufacturing
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to mentor and train graduate and undergraduate students in a research laboratory setting
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently and/or collaboratively to achieve project objectives and milestones
Preferred Qualifications
An excellent track record of productive and creative research, as demonstrated by publications in peer reviewed journals Familiarity with epoxy-amine and polyurethane materials, photopolymerization, and/or additive manufacturing.
