Job Summary
The Patient Navigator Non-Clinical 2 position supports the Epilepsy Surgical Pathway program through the Neurology Clinic to coordinate care for patients who are candidates and potential participants for surgical intervention in the treatment of intractable seizures.
Involves providing non-clinical support, guidance, and assistance for patients and families as they navigate through complex healthcare environments. Primary goals are to increase patient satisfaction and to optimize care and outcomes. Acts as a communication liaison to understand the patient's non-clinical individual needs, desires, and concerns. Guides the patient and family to a broad range of services, amenities, and information to promote healing and ensure satisfaction with the patient care experience.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license and/or certification if required for the position

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training
  • Experience in Case Management and Referral Coordination
  • Acquiring knowledge of Patient Rights & Responsibilities, Joint Commission standards, and Centers for Medicare / Medicaid regulations
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Knowledge of data collection, compilation, and analytical techniques
  • Skills to comprehend and assess patients' grievances to quickly locate an appropriate resource for assistance
  • Working knowledge of the organization and how to get issues resolved
  • Solid interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to be diplomatic and highly organized
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and apply sound judgment
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, demanding environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to manage and oversee multiple tasks simultaneously, including high daily call volume
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Proficiency with Windows-based software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in a functional area

Department Overview
The Department of Neurology conducts basic and clinical research on the nervous system and provides clinical care for people with neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, epilepsy, movement disorders like Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases, tremor, dystonia, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular conditions, headache and sleep disorders.
Our faculty includes leading neuroscientists, who work to expand our knowledge of nervous system function, as well as neurologists and psychologists who provide diagnosis and treatment for adults and children. We partner with colleagues from throughout the health system and work closely with the Department of Neurological Surgery to provide multidisciplinary team management for neurological disorders.
