A job with Student Life Marketing provides students the opportunity to work in an agency-like atmosphere where creative problem-solving and collaboration with colleagues lead to the development of effective strategies to build awareness, engagement, and action from target audiences. All Student Life Marketing staff will contribute to the creation, implementation, and assessment of various marketing and communications initiatives to promote the Office of Student Life and its 30 plus departments.

The Part-Time Student Multimedia Photographer is responsible for planning, shooting, editing, and sharing photographs for a variety of marketing and communications purposes. This includes coverage of major university events, departmental functions, and marketing campaign shoots. Photos will be used across multiple platforms such as digital and print campaigns, social media, websites, email campaigns, signage, décor, and more.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Capture photos of events, programs, people, places, and scenes using a DSLR camera.
  • Edit and share photos for immediate use on social platforms, campaigns, websites, and more, including some same-day edits for posting.
  • Maintain photo libraries to optimize search capabilities.
  • Collaborate with team members and clients to ensure timely delivery of high-quality photos.
  • Assist with video content creation as needed, including b-roll footage.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.

Preferred

  • Pursuit of a degree in Graphic Design or a related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Experience using DSLR cameras, lighting, and gathering audio.
  • Experience editing photos with Adobe Photoshop, Camera Raw, and Photo Mechanic.
  • Experience working on event photography with a focus on people, places, and scenes.

Preferred

  • Experience with video production and editing (Adobe Premiere and AfterEffects).
  • Experience creating interactive graphics with Adobe After Effects.

SKILLS

Required

  • Strong photography skills with DSLR cameras, lighting techniques, and composition.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Camera Raw, and Photo Mechanic for photo editing.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Desire to continuously improve and learn more about photography.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. 

This role requires a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends while maintaining some office hours.
