The part-time Mental Health Counselor provides clinical services to IU students through Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) within the Student Health Center. This role requires a culturally informed approach to supporting student mental health.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Collaborates with CAPS multidisciplinary team to support student well-being.
- Conducts 45-minute initial consultations to assess students and determine appropriate care, either within CAPS or with external providers.
- Supports emergency services and crisis drop-in shifts, assessing students in acute distress or crisis situations.
- Assists with clinical duties such as crisis interventions or individual counseling during periods of high demand, though ongoing individual psychotherapy is not the primary focus of this role.

- Provides direct clinical mental health services.
- Maintains accurate, timely clinical notes, following Quality Improvement committee standards.
- Adheres to relevant ethical and legal standards of HIPAA, relevant professional bodies, state boards.
- Consults with and refers to other professionals when appropriate (e.g., psychiatrists, medical providers, and dietitians)
- Utilizes evidence-based clinical interventions and, as appropriate, document in clinical notes.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required
- Master's degree in relevant mental health area from an accredited program
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 4 years of post-degree experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Indiana OR
- Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Indiana

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
