Program Director of the PhD in Health Sciences Program
The University of Texas at San Antonio Health Science Center is pleased to announce a national search for the next Program Director of the PhD in Health Sciences Program. The School of Health Professions and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at UT Health San Antonio invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position that includes the oversight and direction of the PhD in Health Sciences program. The PhD in Health Sciences program is designed to prepare future faculty, researchers and leaders in allied health (see: Ph.D. in Health Sciences | School of Health Professions ). Additional assignments may include maintaining an appropriate personal research agenda, establishment and/or oversight of additional graduate or undergraduate programs and special projects. Well qualified applicants will demonstrate a strong track record in research and publications, to include external funding for research.
The deans of the School of Health Professions and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences seek an individual who can leverage the existing strengths of the schools and support academic and research excellence at the institution. The successful candidate will provide academic and administrative leadership to assist in development and implementation of additional programs and to enhance the school’s impact on teaching, service, and scholarship. The successful candidate will facilitate intradepartmental/inter-school and external collaborations to ensure the continuing success of an excellent program.
Core Responsibilities
· PhD program director will oversee all aspects of the program and fulfill the administrative and academic duties of program director.
· Mange all elements of the academic program’s administration including enrollment projections and management, recruitment efforts, admissions oversight, and identification and evaluation of program faculty.
· Oversee maintenance and development of program communications and marketing materials including catalog, website, and other marketing content (with assistance from the UT Health Marketing team).
· Coordinate student support services with other school-based and institutional offices.
· Teach courses for students in both the PhD program and other programs in the university.
· Collaborate and create supportive partnerships both within and outside the schools, and university.
· Support the future growth, expansion and success of the program.
· Continue to revise and refine the program’s curriculum, courses and related materials.
· Further develop research programs appropriate for the health sciences.
· Advise students and serve as a research mentor to students for dissertation completion.
Qualifications
· Ph.D. or earned doctoral research degree from a regionally accredited institution with experience and/or expertise in one of the relevant allied health disciplines.
· A strong background in the program’s core curricular areas of research, education, and leadership.
· A background and licensure (as appropriate) in one of the health professions/allied health fields.
· An established track record of teaching, research, and service excellence at an institution of higher education appropriate for initial appointment at senior rank (e.g., associate or full professor) or rapid progression to senior rank.
· Demonstration of significant and successful administrative experience in a university setting.
· Strong, independent leadership, organizational, and managerial skills, including project management of complex assignments or tasks.
· Understanding online education best practices and state and federal regulations related to the delivery of online academic programs and the willingness to learn and implement instructional technologies effectively.
· Experience in curriculum development, and the ability to oversee students with various allied health backgrounds.
· Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and community partners.
· Experience with institutional accreditation and/or program accreditation and the regulations related to the establishment and operations of effective academic programs in the State of Texas.
· Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member and team leader.

The School of Health Professions
As an integral part of UT Health San Antonio, the School of Health Professions (SHP) seeks to make lives better through excellence in teaching, research, service and patient care. The SHP offers graduate degrees in Imaging Sciences (MS), Medical Laboratory Sciences (MS), Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS), Respiratory Care (MS) and Speech Language Pathology (MS) and advanced training through doctoral degree programs in Occupational Therapy (OTD) and Physical Therapy (DPT). The school’s PhD in Health Sciences program began its first cohort of students in the fall of 2020 and has accepted additional cohorts each year. The school also offers several undergraduate (BS) degree programs including respiratory care, medical laboratory science, medical sciences and emergency health sciences.
Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences
The PhD in Health Sciences is offered by the School of Health Professions in collaboration with the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) and the program director will have dual reporting responsibilities. The GSBS is the PhD granting authority for the university, and as such offers eight PhD programs including two combined professional /PhD programs (DDS/PhD; MD/PhD) and a core PhD in Integrated Biomedical Sciences (see: https://www.uthscsa.edu/academics/biomedical-sciences )
