Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an initial appointment is $68,247. See Unit 18 Lecturer table   for the salary range for this position. These are academic year appointments and subject to the normal processes of academic review. Salary is prorated in accordance instructional workload calculation.

Position description

The School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts seeks a lecturer(s) to teach courses in Foreign Language (Chinese) for the Academic Year 2025-26. Courses being offered may include but not limited to:

Elementary Chinese I
Elementary Chinese II

In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor is responsible for creating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours (2 hours/week), and grading examinations and/or papers. The instructor may also be required to hold discussion and lab sections or supervise a graduate student teaching assistant.

This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and appropriate collective bargaining agreement. Full time and part time positions available. Three courses in Fall and three courses in Spring are equivalent to full time position. Part time varies based on need and availability.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications

Advanced degree in Chinese Language or Literature and experience teaching at the college or university level are required. Must be able to provide a record of excellence in teaching.
