Job Summary:

The Nam Lab offers an exciting opportunity to engage in basic, translational, and preclinical glaucoma research, with a focus on developing neuroprotective strategies. Our work aims to translate discoveries from bench to bedside, exploring the role of Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) in disease progression, and developing targeted therapies, drug delivery systems, and stem cell-based treatments for retinal neurodegeneration. Lab members will have the chance to work on discovering and validating therapeutic targets in vitro and in rodent glaucoma models, conducting preclinical studies, and advancing promising therapies into clinical trials. We encourage lab members to present their research at national conferences. This position is ideal for motivated candidates looking to contribute to impactful research with the potential to improve patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with and support Principal Investigator (PI) and research functions.

  • Conducting animal studies, including maintenance, treatments, anesthesia administration, and histological assessment.
  • Culture, maintenance and expansion of human and animal cells.
  • Performing basic molecular biology lab techniques such as ELISA, qPCR, Western blotting, and immunofluoscence staining.
  • Regular maintenance of laboratory chemical and reagent inventories.
  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas
  • Support of laboratory research by performing laboratory maintenance duties, including autoclaving materials, preparing solutions, and other tasks as assigned by the laboratory manager.
  • Performing other bench science experiments in support of research projects as needed.
  • Communicating effectively with the PI, lab manager and other lab members, and maintaining a professional conduct.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintaining an organized and up-to-date laboratory notebook.
  • Aiding the Lab manager with lab organization, maintaining inventory and ensuring regulatory compliance and lab safety
  • Participating in lab meetings and departmental seminars and journal clubs.

Intermediate-Level, all of the above and:

  • Independently and creatively identify laboratory solutions. 
  • Independently Review, develop and implement new or modified laboratory techniques required for research projects. 
  • Assist Supervisors and/or management with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist and train junior team members.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:


Entry Professional
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis

Intermediate Professional
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
  • At least one year of professional-level research experience

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:


Entry Professional
  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab

Intermediate Professional
  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory technique, including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and possess excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Responsibility and reliability are critical for this position.
  • Ability to interpret complex rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to listen and follow precise protocols and written instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory book records.
  • Detailed documentation of experiments and results.
  • Experience with biology, molecular biology and/or immunological assays.

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as

Entry Level:  $46,274 – $58,861

Intermediate Level:  $50,357 – $64,054

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
