Overview

The NYU Stern Department of Economics is hiring highly skilled and motivated individuals to work as full-time Junior Research Scientist (pre-doctoral research fellow) for a term of at least one year. 

Research activities will fall within applied microeconomics (primarily industrial organization and international trade) in collaboration with Professors Giulia Brancaccio and Felix Montag. Current project areas include transportation markets, industrial policy, globalization and competition, and antitrust and regulation.

Research fellows will also be a part of the NYU Stern Economics academic community, which entails the opportunity to attend courses, including undergraduate and graduate courses in economics, mathematics, and computer science, subject to program policies (i.e. tuition remission and auditing policies).

 

A start date of September 2025 is preferred, but negotiable. We will consider applications on a rolling basis.

In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $50,440-$60,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Candidates should have a strong quantitative background, significant programming experience, and an ability to solve problems independently. The position requires a minimum of a bachelor?s degree with a concentration in a quantitative field, such as economics, computer science, statistics, or mathematics. 

Candidates with an interest in research and potential interest in pursuing graduate studies in economics are preferred. Previous research assistants working with our applied microeconomics faculty have gone on to graduate studies at top PhD programs in economics, including at Harvard, Princeton, Northwestern, Columbia, and Cambridge.
