Position Highlights

The University of Arizona Division of Human Resources invites qualified HR professionals to apply for the position of Human Resource Generalist III. Led by a Senior HR Partner, this position will provide strategic guidance and systems support for the college or division as part of HR Modernization. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and supporting HR initiatives through the application of HR best practices, relevant laws and policies related to workforce assessment, employment, classification and compensation, employee relations/performance management, training and development.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Consulting/Advising:

  • Serves as an HR advisor to unit leadership, participating in leadership meetings, interpreting HR policies, analyzing workforce data, and co-developing best practices to support organizational goals.
  • Supports staffing and compensation planning by drafting organizational structures, advising on budget-aligned proposals, and identifying compliance gaps in collaboration with the Sr. HR Partner and Compensation Team.

Employee Relations:

  • Provides guidance and support on employee relations by fostering strong workplace relationships, advising on performance management and policy inquiries, facilitating resolution of employee concerns, supporting documentation for disciplinary actions, and coordinating with senior HR and relevant departments for appropriate referrals and follow-up.

Frontline Leadership:

  • Act as team lead, provides guidance and oversees transactional work of Generalists positions.
  • Provides shadowing and on the job training.
  • Manages and monitors daily activities and processes.
  • Develops and manages local level processes and SOPs in accordance with standard HR business processes.
  • Develops tools and tracking mechanisms. 

Transactional Support & Other Duties:

  • Supports annual HR processes events in HRIS with collaboration between Colleges and business teams.
  • May support the monitoring of visa extensions and permanent residency processes, while assisting with compliance and transaction approvals as needed.
  • May have approval authority for some transactions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of and skill in applying the principles, practices and procedures of human resources administration in the areas of compensation and classification, recruitment and employment, employee relations, and employee development and training.
  • Knowledge of and skill in interpreting and applying state and federal statues and applicable rules and regulations related to the management of human resources.
  • Skill in facilitating meetings and delivering presentations. 
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced work environment. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Skilled in professional writing.
  • Ability to effectively lead and supervise, review, and approve work of team members.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional education, such as an Associate or Bachelor's degree.
  • Three additional years' experience in a generalist role that provided comprehensive HR support across all functional areas.
  • Previous experience mentoring and/or supervising teams.
  • Experience working with HRIS and ATS systems.
  • Experience working in HR at a higher education institution.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP certificates.
