Graduate Assistant, Barry Service Corps/Federal Work-Study Community Service Facilitator

Summary

The purpose of the position is to coordinate the Barry Service Corps (BSC) Program and Federal Work-Study Community Service Program, a federally funded financial aid program that allows students to earn part of their financial aid award while working directly with community organizations.  In particular, the Graduate Assistant handles program time tracking processes, hiring procedures, program recruitment, and mentoring of program participants.




Essential Functions

1.   Manage program’s time-tracking processes.

  • Reviews and approves hours in Workday weekly.

  • Reviews timesheets weekly.

2.   Recruit and place students in positions with community partners.

  • Promote BSC program to students, faculty, and staff.

  • Work with Human Resources and Financial Aid staff to hire and onboard students.

  • Interview students and identify student skills, interests, and needs.

  • Connect students to appropriate community partners and match students to available positions.

3.   Provide training and mentoring to students participating in the program.

  • Provide annual training to student participants

  • Notify students of professional development opportunities

  • Facilitate regular check-in meetings with students, including end-of-semester reflection meetings

  • Participate in program retreats and end-of-semester celebrations

4.  Assist with training FWS community partners/service site supervisors

(including school principals/assistant principals).

5.  Prepare annual FWS program reports and evaluate BSC program through student learning outcomes assessment surveys and critical reflection activities.

6.  Support major CCSI programs and events, such as the Community Engagement Symposium and Community Engagement Awards.




Qualifications/Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Education or Social Sciences.

  • Must have a valid drivers license.
