Grand Canyon University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking applicants for a full-time Honors English Instructor to teach interdisciplinary honors courses that inspire and challenge students through interdisciplinary approaches, fostering a deep understanding of how humanities and sciences intersect to shape the human experience. This role requires a strong foundation in liberal arts disciplines, critical analysis of literary and artistic works, and the ability to engage students in discussions about the impact of knowledge and technology on human society. The position may also teach Freshmen English courses.

Please note, this is a 9-month full-time faculty starting in August 2025 and based at our main campus in Phoenix, AZ.
What you will do:
Teach a variety of honors-level courses, including HUM-109HN: Knowledge and Technology in the Humanities and HUM-201HN: Intersections Between the Humanities and Sciences .
May teach Freshmen Composition I and II courses.
Provide direction to instructional assistants, including norming and training in writing instruction and content.
Facilitate classroom discussions on the relationships between knowledge, technology, and humanity, incorporating perspectives from literature, visual arts, and interdisciplinary studies.
Analyze and interpret artistic and literary works, including science-fiction and dystopian literature, to assess their impact on cultural and technological development.
Engage students in interdisciplinary approaches to understanding ethical, social, and scientific issues.
Provide individualized feedback and support to students to enhance their analytical and communication skills.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of scholarly research in relevant fields and incorporate new insights into course content.
Participate in curriculum design and development.
Academically support students outside classroom hours.
Actively support college/university mission and initiatives.
Actively participate on college and/or university committees.
Assist the Dean with college and university initiatives and in developing internal and external communities.
Provide mentorship to adjunct faculty.
Engage in professional development activities.
May work outside normal business hours in support of student clubs and field trips.
Compliance with all college and University policies.
Willingness to assume other duties as assigned.
What you need:
Master’s degree in a Liberal Arts discipline (e.g., Philosophy, American Studies, Classics, Rhetoric, or Literature) with a strong background in analyzing the impact of technology on humanity through textual and visual media. Academic background in humanities.
At least one year of instructional experience at the post-secondary level.
Ability to teach courses in a wide range of history-focused topics with honors-level rigor.
Familiarity with web-enhanced instructional tools such as Canvas/Blackboard/WebCT/Halo digital classrooms.
Ability to articulate a clear understanding of values-based education from a Christian perspective.
Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated teamwork, self-motivation, integrity, and commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement, and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
Bonus:
Doctorate degree in a Liberal Arts discipline (e.g., Philosophy, American Studies, Classics, English, Rhetoric, or Literature) with a strong background in analyzing the impact of technology on humanity through textual and visual media. Academic background in humanities.
Two years of instructional experience at the post-secondary level in humanities, including teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching across multiple modalities.
Experience teaching at the honors or college level, with demonstrated success in fostering critical and interdisciplinary thinking.
Ability to integrate diverse media and analytical methods into curriculum development.
Strong commitment to student engagement, mentorship, and academic excellence.
