Summary of Job Duties:
UA Little Rock seeks applicants for the position of Extra Help/TRIO Upward Bound Academic Tutor-Mentor (Temporary/Summer). TRIO Upward Bound programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Education to assist low-income, potential first-generation secondary individuals with fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound Academic Tutor-Mentor will be responsible for helping students understand different subjects and encourage participants in the learning processes. These professionals also review materials used in classes, explain various topics, and answer all doubts and questions of the student regarding that topic. Their functions are a supplementation to the classroom teaching.
The Upward Bound Academic Tutor-Mentor will assist full-time staff in providing services and activities to participants; providing tutoring services and providing administrative support for the program. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.
Qualifications:
Required Education and/or Experience:
A minimum of 90 college hours;
Proficient in academic subject tutoring areas;
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree
Educator's license
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop student skills;
Help students to improve their learning process;
Detect specific needs of each student;
Teach supplementary lessons;
Create reports;
Assist students with college research and careers;
Help students prepare for the ACT exam.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to help students with their homework and projects;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language to participants;
Demonstrated interpersonal skills, sensitivity to, and the ability to relate to participants.
