JOB SUMMARY: The Employer & Student Development Specialist focuses on growing impactful employer partnerships to increase SVSU’s brand presence in the Great Lakes Bay Region through internships and career fairs. Also supports the career preparation and planning of SVSU students and alumni.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and grow impactful employer partnerships and campus employer engagement, focused on alumni and student connections, community engagement, serving as the point of contact for employers when recruiting SVSU students and commutating information on Handshake, career fairs, and other available recruiting services.
  • Actively attend community and chamber events to increase awareness of our Employer Partnership Program
  • Identify key desired career readiness needs by industry/major through assessment and current industry trends and define employer program offerings to maximize student career readiness and recruitment success of SVSU students.
  • Coordinates events and activities that connect students with industry professionals, including planning, market and execute career fairs, employer recruitment visits, tabling, site visits, on-campus interviews, networking events, career-related workshops, and professional development events.
  • Guide, advise, and support traditional students and alumni through career planning such as resume, mock interviews, cover letter, job search strategies and grad student preparation.
  • Develop and facilitate programs and classroom presentations on a variety of career topics.
  • Collect employer partner feedback on the skills they need in new hires as well as overall program design and logistics, and work cross-functionally with faculty to incorporate that feedback into the learning journey.
  • Coordinate and market the Botz Fellowship Program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in business, management, recruiting, career development, job placement, human resources, or related work experience.
  • Must have a customer-service oriented attitude and demonstrable, successful customer-service experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an understanding of and enthusiasm for today’s undergraduate and graduate student experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and networking skills.
  • Experience and comfort with public speaking.
  • Demonstrated experience in event planning, program management, and presentation development.
  • Exceptional public relations skills to introduce and represent SVSU to internal and external constituencies.
  • Strong technology skills with proficiencies in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn specialized software programs.
  • Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community and external constituencies.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

 

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, Education, or related major.
  • Professional experience in resume writing, interviewing coaching, career counseling, career coaching, life coaching, or similar.
