Position Summary | The Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies seeks the next Director of the National African Language Resource Center (NALRC). The goals of the NALRC are to enhance the teaching and learning of African languages; to establish and maintain networks among African language teachers, professional language teacher associations, and other foreign language centers; to coordinate African language teaching and learning resources available in the United States; to disseminate information and materials on the teaching and learning of African languages; and to evaluate and promote African language instructional programs. The NALRC Director will provide leadership for the growth and development of these various programmatic endeavors and will coordinate with HLS leadership. Additional specific responsibilities of the NALRC director include the following:

Basic Qualifications | Doctoral degree or equivalent in Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Second Language Assessment, foreign language teaching, instructional technology, Instructional Systems Design, or a related field. The selected finalist is expected to possess at least 3-5 years of experience in administration of language resource centers, as well as demonstrated experience in second or foreign language teaching, preferably an African language at the post-secondary level, including experience with course design and implementation. Familiarity and/or experience in designing language instructional materials for LCTLs. The capacity to work collaboratively with faculty and staff across academic units, schools, and linguistic backgrounds is essential to this position. Candidate should possess experience in successful grant writing and have a record of managerial experience in higher education, including evidence of capacity to supervise a team with broad and varied responsibilities, experience, and skillsets. Demonstrated commitment to and experience working with stakeholders and collaborators from a wide spectrum of cultural and linguistic backgrounds is essential to successful performance of this leadership role. |

Additional Qualifications | Familiarity with Title VI National Resource Center program as other international programs in other federal agencies is highly desirable. Experience with grant application processes and post-award management processes for federal grants is also preferred. Fluency in at least one African language in addition to English is desirable. |
