Compensation Administration Specialist

The College of Letters and Science (L&S) is the heart of UW-Madison and home to a tremendous breadth and depth of departments and degree-granting programs in the humanities, natural, physical, biological sciences, social sciences, and the School for Computing, Data, and Information Sciences (CDIS). Join the L&S HR team in this exciting and newly created Compensation Administration Specialist role with a unique opportunity to make a positive impact through data analysis, process implementation, and program assessment.
Reporting to the HR Manager for Staff Programs, the Compensation Administration Specialist will provide day-to-day operational support in the areas of classification, compensation, workforce relations, and performance management for L&S staff positions. This role will support process development, identify process improvement needs, offer solutions, and use data to inform determinations. This role will also help solidify operational best practices for L&S units in accordance with campus and college policies, procedures and guidelines. This position requires a high attention to detail, a solid analytical focus, and a process-driven mindset.

• 5% Provides consultation regarding compensation issues and program direction, and ensures compensation policies and procedures are maintained and aligned with industry best practices and organizational vision
• 20% Receives, reviews, and approves classification and compensation adjustments and new entries; and ensures adherence to existing policies and procedures
• 15% Serves as unit liaison to human resources staff providing organizational information, reviewing data, and recommending solutions for complex pay scenarios in accordance with established policies, procedures regulations, and applicable laws
• 5% Participates in salary surveys and conducts classification and compensation studies of market data, reviews current practices, and recommends improvements to leadership to align with strategic initiatives and objectives
• 15% Contributes to the planning, development, and implementation of strategic compensation and classification initiatives and objectives
• 20% Works on the regular maintenance of the compensation program taking initiative to evaluate its effectiveness, achievement of goals, budgetary aspects, etc., and recommend improvements to leadership where necessary
• 15% Executes and audits work transactions and changes adhering to established policies and procedures to meet anticipated deadlines
• 5% Schedules logistics and secures resources regarding the resolution of performance management and workforce relations issues

• Serve as a L&S HRIS system processing expert for all compensation and job change functions (One Time Payments, Period Activity Pay, FTE changes, etc.)
• Provide first line data review and determinations for staff salary change requests, and job title change requests
• Analyze salary data for current employees, identifying areas of opportunity for parity-based adjustments
• Support college and campus-wide salary adjustment initiatives and/or activities
• Track and monitor performance review compliance and completion rates
• Support certain workforce relations activities, such as serving as notetaker and/or providing logistical support

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, related field or equivalent work experience

Minimum Qualifications
- At least two years of Human Resources experience
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to interpret and apply compensation and employee relations program concepts and frameworks
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with compensation program administration within a public sector or higher education workforce
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability with Human Resources Information Systems (e.g., Workday, PeopleSoft, etc.)
- Experience with data analysis and/or developing and improving processes and procedures
- Experience with evaluating program needs and developing communication and resources to address those needs with a focus on ensuring transparency
- Experience with communicating complex information in a clear and customer-focused fashion that considers a wide variety of resources and viewpoints

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $55,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
