Overview

The Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination at Princeton University (LISD) based at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, seeks a dynamic and highly-motivated Communications and Events Specialist. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications and Events Specialist is a versatile and creative communications and event management professional. Primary responsibilities include supporting events and trips; short- and long-form writing about Princeton LISD's programming, faculty, students, and alumni; managing the Institute's newsletters and social media.
The Communications and Events Specialist must be able to work within a team but is also expected to function independently. Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive mindset are desired traits.

Candidates must be willing and able to travel internationally and nationally, as needed, to accompany student trips (1-4 per year), and to adjust their schedule to accommodate evening hours for special events, determined well in advance.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, 1-year term position with a possibility of extension.


Responsibilities

Event support:

  • Assist with event planning and implementation, including, but not limited to: panel discussions/visiting speakers' talks, workshops and receptions.

Writing and content development:

  • Research and write content that elevates LISD's events/programs, work of faculty, students, and alumni, including, but not limited to: announcements, reports, executive summaries, talking points/event memos, FAQs, etc.
  • Compile, draft and edit reports and other internal documents, including, but not limited to: LISD's annual report, monthly/bi-weekly LISD events newsletters and quarterly special edition newsletters.

Social media:

  • Monitor; develop content and post on LISD's platforms, including, but not limited to: X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Trip support:

  • Assist with student trip planning and supervision, both domestically and internationally.

Other:

  • Work with institute leadership and suppliers on all LISD-branded items.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • BA/BS and minimum of 3 years related work experience in strategic communications and outreach in academic settings, social science, policy, politics or a related field.
  • The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with work experience in higher education, think tanks or public policy.
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic outreach and communications plans, as well as in using/leveraging digital communications channels and social media, networking, and producing announcements, newsletters, digital content, and outreach materials.
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communications skills and a record of successful collaboration with organizational leadership. Candidates will be requested to submit writing/portfolio samples as part of the interview process.
  • Familiarity with graphic design and related tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.).
  • Proven ability to manage projects, establish priorities among multiple deadlines, and to multi-task.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team and balance the interests and needs of a variety of stakeholders.
  • Candidates must have a high sense of accountability and strong work ethics and the ability to handle confidential information.
  • Occasional international and domestic travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with outreach in academic settings.
  • Some experience with international affairs and public policy.
