Chief Global Compliance Officer

The Chief Global Compliance Officer (“CGCO”) is responsible to the Senior Vice President, General Counsel for developing, executing, and enforcing the Global Ethics and Compliance Program in order to ensure compliance with evolving laws and regulatory requirements in addition to University policies and procedures. The CGCO should proactively enhance standards and procedures to the program to detect, prevent, and correct non-compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.

 

The CGCO will lead the implementation of a comprehensive compliance program for the University through meaningful engagement of key stakeholders and collaboration with various constituencies of the NYU community. The CGCO will operate with managerial courage and authentic, calm confidence, being open and direct even in difficult conversations, addressing any challenges tactfully and head-on, and engendering trust both throughout the NYU community as well as externally. CGCO will represent NYU as a public face of the organization, engaging with key stakeholders and communicating NYU’s vision and strategy while building relationships, championing NYU’s interests externally and representing NYU’s image and reputation. The CGCO will effectively lead by example and through influence, inspiring others while fostering accountability and driving towards organizational and programmatic goals. The CGCO will be highly collaborative, compassionate, and sought out for their perspective.

 

The Office of Ethics and Compliance is responsible for instilling a culture of compliance with regulations and ethical standards and developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure excellence in the University’s efforts to comply with its institutional, regulatory and legal obligations. This office will ensure both general and specific training and education regarding applicable laws, regulations, and policies; communication of clear business ethics guidelines to all employees, faculty, consultants, and independent contractors; monitoring and oversight of the University’s efforts to maintain the highest standards of excellence in fulfilling its institutional and regulatory obligations. Travel to other NYU campuses and sites is required.



Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree plus 15 years of relevant experience (as noted below), or Master's Degree in a related area, plus 10 years of relevant experience (as noted below).
Preferred Education:
Juris Doctorate (J.D.) A Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) or Master of Laws degree (“LL.M”) from an American Bar Association accredited law school is strongly preferred.
Required Experience:
With a Bachelor's Degree, 15+ years experience as a statured executive with significant professional experience in financial, legal, compliance, regulatory and/or audit matters (experience in multiple areas preferred) in an organization of comparable scale and complexity. Must include experience conducting effective investigations and evolving investigation protocols to incorporate best practices.
 
With a Master's Degree in a related area, 10+ years experience as a statured executive with significant professional experience in financial, legal, compliance, regulatory and/or audit matters (experience in multiple areas preferred) in an organization of comparable scale and complexity. Must include experience conducting effective investigations and evolving investigation protocols to incorporate best practices.
Preferred Experience:
15+ years Professional experience within an academic institution, large company, or government agency.


Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:


Team and Organizational Leadership: Significant executive leadership experience. Ability to work as a leader and as a member of a team, and excellent interpersonal skills required. A strong leader with an in-depth understanding of key applicable federal, state and local legislation, ability to read and interpret complex regulatory or legal documents and ability to communicate technical and complex concepts required. Must possess the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; ability to respond effectively to confidential inquiries or complaints; ability to communicate through effective and persuasive speeches and presentations. 
 
Stakeholder Engagement: Experience working as a trusted partner with stakeholders to manage complex matters and further organizational goals. Possesses the ability to navigate and build relationships with internal and external constituencies including the Board, leadership and administration, staff, students, partners, industry groups. Able to work effectively with regulators at the federal, state and/or local levels as well as legislative bodies, legislators and policy makers.
 
Transformation and Enterprise Leadership: Possesses experience serving as a leader during a transformational period, including ideally time spent evolving a compliance function across growing organizations of scale, setting standards, driving culture, and implementing systems to support transformation objectives. 
 
Research and Data Collection Experience: Well versed in quality data collection and in ensuring adequacy, accuracy, and legitimacy of data in large-scale and complex systems. Ability to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards. 
 
Exceptional Judgment and Decision-Making Skills: Ability to rapidly evaluate information and manage risk; ability to be a trusted advisor to internal clients and stakeholders. 
 
Highly-Engaged and Strategic: Ability to be “hands on” while also bringing strategic vision and global sensibility to the function. Ability to navigate and drive results through a high volume of matters, conflicting demands and multiple priorities, while maintaining an unwavering focus on objectives and ensuring key stakeholder needs are met.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $330,000.00 to USD $400,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
