Description
The purpose of this research is to investigate material release from nanocomposites used in commerce, with a focus on nanocomposites commonly used in consumer products. The research topics include 1) the development of measurement methods and techniques to collect, sample, and characterize release material from nanocomposites under various use scenarios to aid downstream hazard assessment; 2) method development to evaluate long term particulate and VOC emission during additive manufacturing process to support robust hazard assessment and development of safe methodology for the use of additive manufacturing devices including consumer grade 3D printers; and 3) metrology development for characterizing mixed-phase nanomaterial samples using spectroscopy and microscopy methods.
