Position Title Career Services Advisor

Position Summary
The Career Services Advisor is responsible for providing professional career guidance/coaching to UIW students and alumni. The Career Services Advisor reports to the Director of Career Services.

Description of Job Duties
  • Advise students on career services resources and professional development opportunities.
  • Conduct career advisement sessions for current students, recent graduates, and alumni.
  • Respond to student questions pertaining to career development, exploration, and placement procedures.
  • Educate students on job search skills and industry trends in preparation for employment.
  • Guide students and graduates on effective career search process.
  • Conduct training for personal and professional development.
  • Assist students in resume preparation, interview skills, and job search strategies.
  • Assist in new student orientations, first year seminars and graduation functions.
  • Assist in organizing job fairs, career awareness programs, and other career specific workshops and events.  Attendance may involve local travel.
  • Develop outreach programs to promote career advisement services among students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook or equivalent.
  • Ability to effectively assist students in understanding learning outcomes of academic and professional development.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Strong initiative and creativity to develop outreach initiatives.
  • Strong organization and coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of career-related platforms (i.e. – Handshake).
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree. Note that Bachelor’s Degree by date of assignment will be considered.
Required Work Experience
One (1) year of experience working in student support services and/or career advising in a higher education setting or relevant environment. Note that GA experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience working in student support services and/or career advising in a higher education.
  • Proficient in MS Teams.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Must have a valid driver’s license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.
Work Hours
Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with extended hours as needed, especially during peak periods, to meet departmental goals.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs for table set-up/tear-down at events.
  • Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat to retrieve event materials.
  • Ability to push/pull equipment carts/wagons holding up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to actively engage in events for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to actively engage faculty, staff, alumni, and potential/current students, as well as attend meetings on and off campus.
