Pre-College Programs is seeking two Black Student Success Programs Coordinators. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
These Program Coordinators advances OSU's values, mission, goals and objectives by building strong, collaborative relationships with diverse communities and organizations throughout Oregon, particularly in the Portland Metro area, and helping to build and strengthen pathways to higher education.
The Black Student Success Program Coordinator(s) will help secondary students transition to post-secondary institutions, assist with college-readiness programming, train OSU students to serve as student mentors for participating K-12 students, and assist with Corvallis-based programming, including the End of Year Family Day. Funded through an African American/Black Students Success grant from the Oregon Department of Education, the Pathways to OSU and Post-Secondary Success (POPS) program has a mission to increase: 1. Access to authentic, culturally responsible, and co-created learning and activities, 2. Recruitment, retention, and postsecondary success of K-12 African/African American/Black/African Diaspora (AABD) students in the metropolitan Portland, Oregon, area and among African American/Black college students.
Griggs Coordinator: One Coordinator will report to the Director of the Dr. Lawrence Griggs Office of Black & Indigenous Student Success, the Director is a member of the Student Success & Belonging team, supporting the academic, personal, and professional development of students who have traditionally been denied equal access to higher education by providing a welcoming environment which includes smaller classes, academic counseling, and innovative programs & services designed to enhance retention and persistence.
PCP Coordinator: One Coordinator will report to the Associate Director for Operations for Precollege Programs (PCP). The Precollege Programs department has a mission of providing engaging learning experiences that are rooted in equity and inclusion that promote youth success. PCP supports and oversees a wide range of youth outreach activities and academic programs to broaden participation in STEM and increase college access, academic preparation, and career awareness for Oregon's youth.
The Griggs and PCP Coordinators will work collaboratively to oversee the management and coordination of day-to-day implementation of the Grant Activity List which includes college access and readiness programs and an End of Year Family Day. The grant is a partnership between the Precollege Programs, Student Success & Belonging, and Access OSU departments at OSU and multiple Community Based Organizations serving the Portland area. Coordinators will train and manage OSU students who are instrumental in program implementation. Both Coordinators will coordinate, align and improve delivery of OSU youth and family engagement, pre-college, co-curricular academic success programs, and community engagement serving Black students in the Portland Metro area and across the state with the goal of increasing the number of on-track freshmen, attendance and graduation rates of Black students.
Funding for these positions are provided by the Oregon Department of Education through June 30th 2028.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):

Typically requires Bachelor's Degree in field relevant to program focus. May require certification or licensure as appropriate to the position.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in education, ethnic studies, public policy, social work, public health, sociology or related discipline.
  • Experience working with students with underserved backgrounds.
  • Experience and success building and maintaining positive relationships with community partners and organizations, particularly with those that serve underserved communities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and action/commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice and the application of these concepts to advancing the goals of a public, land grant university to serve underrepresented and underserved communities.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a complex organizational environment to identify, achieve alignment around, and advance strategies for achieving strategic organizational objectives.
  • Demonstrated success in advancing project progress and adapting to unforeseen challenges.
  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with individuals and communities of diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience supervising and supporting the development of staff.
  • Strong demonstrated interpersonal communication and presentation skills across a variety of communication modalities.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030

Type:


Will require moving from one location to another, sometimes quickly, during programs, including around campus and off campus (Portland). Will require transport of equipment to and from those locations with the assist of carts/wagons. Will require evening or weekend work, to support programming during off hours. Will require in-state travel for conferences and grant meetings. Will require travel for programs, depending on the program and partner organization. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds,

Additional Salary Information: $55,000 - $65,000
