The Associate Director of Development, West Region (ADOD) is a vital member of Georgetown’s fundraising team, and will play a critical role building connectivity, engagement, and philanthropic support for the institution in the West Region. This is an especially exciting time to join Georgetown University’s Development team, as we are in the midst of our most ambitious campaign yet, Called to Be . The ADOD West will have exposure to university leadership, select faculty, and high level volunteer leaders and board members to advance Georgetown’s priorities and build upon the strong foundation of current and prospective donors in the market. This position will have a focus on co-leading a regional philanthropic council, focused on engaging and advancing our mission and institutional and campaign initiatives along with additional duties that include, but are not limited to:

  • Partner with Advancement colleagues to ensure all are informed on current philanthropic trends, models, and opportunities in the West Region.

  • Manage a portfolio of donor relationships for Georgetown, playing an important role in enhancing Georgetown’s presence in the West Region through thoughtful and intentional strategy; It is crucial for this role to be a collaborative thought partner and contribute to promoting Georgetown University as a dynamic and impactful partner for major philanthropic initiatives.

  • Qualify, cultivate, and actively manage a portfolio of major and planned giving prospects traveling at least five days per month in order to meaningfully engage and cultivate a community of support.

  • Working with annual metrics, make a minimum of 125 visits annually with current and prospective donors who are undergraduate alumni, current and former parents, and friends; The role will have an annual goal of raising up to $1M as the portfolio matures and must be comfortable asking for five-figure, and in time - six and seven figure gifts.

Work Interactions

The ADOD is a generalist representing all areas of Georgetown University’s campuses and the campaign. S/he is expected to be nimble and donor-centric, educated in the content across the many academic units, programs, and initiatives. The portfolio and donor base this position routinely interacts with will undoubtedly have many points of interests and potential for philanthropic partnerships.

Internally, the ADOD will collaborate with a number of Advancement partners, most specifically Donor Engagement – curating and designing high level donor experiences, Board Operations, Stewardship, Strategic Initiatives, DATA/Prospect Management, and Alumni Engagement, as well as numerous partners on campus as mentioned earlier. This role must be team and relationship oriented, and enjoy balancing a number of stakeholders and partners.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least 3-5 years of professional experience

  • A desire to contribute to and participate in the mission of Georgetown University and the Office of Advancement

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and highly developed interpersonal interaction skills including the ability to exchange and interpret information requiring understanding to influence others

  • Strong negotiating and marketing skills

  • Must be able to give significant attention to detail

  • The ability to work with a diverse range of constituents, including donors, board members and volunteers as well as alumni, parents, friends, faculty, administrators and internal colleagues

  • Must be able to effectively collaborate with others

  • Strong computer skills required including all Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and Salesforce.com GU360 constituent relationship management system

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of higher education fundraising experience, with demonstrable success securing philanthropic support at the five-figure level

  • An innovative and entrepreneurial mindset

  • A demonstrated track record of success in meeting goals, preferably within a major gift metrics framework

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
