The Department of Political Science at Rice University, located in Houston, Texas, invites applications for an assistant teaching professor. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure track faculty position. The appointment is renewable, with an initial term of three years, and promotable thereafter. The successful candidate will (1) show promise as a teacher of courses in American Politics, Political Theory, Public Law, and/or Constitutional Law; (2) demonstrate knowledge of recent evidence-based advances in pedagogical practices; (3) show potential for effective advising and mentorship of undergraduate students; and (4) be willing to participate actively in the department through service.
Duties and Responsibilities
The assistant teaching professor will teach 5 semester-long courses in a 3-2 or 2-3 split. Courses will be accessible and hold broad appeal to students in Political Science and other fields. One course will contribute to the core curriculum of the Politics, Law, and Social Thought minor that is grounded in the close study of texts and other source material (for more information, see the program description at https://politics.rice.edu/about-plst ). The assistant teaching professor will also serve as the major advisor for Political Science, help build a more vibrant and student-centered major and contribute to the ongoing review and development of the undergraduate curriculum in Political Science.

Candidates must currently hold a Ph.D. degree in Political Science or related field, or have the degree conferred by July 1, 2025.
