The Assistant Research Scientist conducts research into their field of expertise that is synergetic with the lab; utilizes the skills and expertise granted to them by their education and experience to complete research projects in their field of expertise; writes and may contribute to research papers, articles, and publications; assists with the preparation and cleaning of worksite; may collaborate with other researchers and/or faculty.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.

Other: Persons in this position should have the ability to travel to various event locations, including occasional overnight trips.

Required Education and Experience

  • Appropriate PhD in a related field

  • Some experiences in a specialized and relevant field of research

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in data science, and/or public health or related fields including industrial and systems engineering, computer science, economics, statistics, mathematics, physics, epidemiology, social work, sociology, and psychology

  • Experience in data analysis using statistical software (e.g., R, Python, SAS, or STATA)

  • Experience in analyzing the data applying machine learning techniques

  • Experience in various other analysis methods (e.g., multivariate regression, time series)  

  • Experience working with large population dataset   

  • Experience in working with high-performance computing (HPC) clusters and distributed systems to process large-scale data

  • Experience in grant writing and obtaining research funding is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Research: Under general supervision, designs health database studies, and conducts the full research including, data management, analysis, and writing reports and papers based on the analysis. Utilizes knowledge and skills granted to them by their education and expertise to complete research projects in the Population Informatics Lab. Analyzes research data and summarizes results.

  • Writes and contribute to research papers, articles, and publications. Assists with grant writing and acquisition.

  • Administrative/ Mentoring: Assists, mentors, and/or supervises student researchers and/or graduate students who are working on the project.

  • Presentations: Prepares presentation materials on research topics that may be presented to small and/or large groups. Actively participates in the preparation of required technical progress reports to research sponsors.
