Position Summary
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Memphis invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in Applied Mathematics to begin in Fall 2025. This position is contingent upon University funding.
The successful candidate will be expected to have expertise in Actuarial Science. Responsibilities include conducting a research program in Applied Mathematics, teaching a diverse range of courses, and engaging in service-related activities for the department. The typical teaching load is two courses per semester. Candidates should possess a PhD in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics and demonstrate a proven record of both collaborative and independent research, supported by quality publications. Additionally, candidates must have expertise in Actuarial Science, evidenced by passing professionally recognized actuarial exams, exhibit strong communication skills, and actively seek external funding.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences has a strong PhD program in Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Graph Theory/Combinatorics, and Analysis, featuring active research collaborations both within the University and with external partners. Applicants are strongly encouraged to include a statement in their cover letter detailing how their research aligns with the department’s research areas or how it may connect different disciplines represented in the department. The successful candidate will be expected to enhance our Actuarial Science program.
