Principal Duties
The successful candidate is expected to conduct extension and applied research activities related to state, county, municipal, and school budgets, revenues, and expenses. Specifically, the individual will help state and local government officials and county extension educators understand and project fiscal policy. This may include budget, property tax, income tax, land use, and school funding issues. In addition, the candidate is expected to publish in high-impact peer reviewed journals, to mentor graduate students, and to secure external grant funding around these issues. In addition to primary outreach and applied research activities, the successful candidate will teach about one course per year.
Active participation in undergraduate and graduate education by teaching, mentoring, chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising undergraduate research projects and publishing research results with students is also expected. The department has a reputation for teaching excellence within both the college and university. Potential exists for teaching distance courses. The successful candidate is expected to contribute toward enhancing teaching excellence.
The successful candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. in agricultural economics, business management, economics, public policy, or another closely related field. This is an academic year appointment.

The Department
The Department of Agricultural Economics at Purdue University has 38 tenure track faculty, over 450 undergraduate students across four majors, and over 100 graduate students. The department’s research and education activities are conducted on a wide array of issues that include agribusiness management, sales, experimental economics, industrial organization, decision sciences, development, trade, policy, macroeconomics, production, consumption, and environmental and resource issues.

The Department of Agricultural Economics is an integral part of the College of Agriculture, one of the world’s leading colleges of agricultural, food, life, and natural resource sciences and ranked eighth in the world in the 2022 QS World University Rankings.
