East Tennessee State University – College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Mathematics and Statistics – Assistant Professor – Tenure Track – 9 months.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at East Tennessee State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 15, 2025.
The Department has 13 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 4 full-time teaching colleagues, and 3 adjuncts, as well as 49 undergraduate majors with concentrations in statistics, computational applied mathematics, mathematical sciences, or mathematics education. Additionally, the department has 19 graduate students pursuing an MS in Mathematical Sciences and 16 graduate students pursuing an MS in Applied Data Science. The department is known for its high-quality teaching, research, and outreach. The recently launched Master of Science in Applied Data Science program is offered in conjunction with the Computation and Research in Data Science (CaRDS) institute, the Department of Computing, and the Statistical Consulting Lab. This program builds on the department’s history of providing internship experiences for students and preparing master’s students for exciting careers in data science, operations research, and statistics. Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, or a related field, or be ABD with an expected PhD by August 2025.
Candidates with research areas in computational science, high performance computing, or computational statistics are especially encouraged to apply. Interest in interdisciplinary collaborations, data science, or global optimization is a plus.
