Job Description
Assistant Dean for Development
Are you energized by building something bigger than yourself? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where ambitious goals and bold ideas drive success? The University of Maryland Medicine is looking for an Assistant Dean for Development to play a pivotal leadership role in shaping the future of philanthropy within our dynamic and expanding academic medical enterprise.
As the leader of a growing team of grateful patient and alumni gift officers, the Assistant Dean will set the strategic direction for major gifts fundraising, foster a culture of innovation, and inspire a high-performing team to exceed expectations. This is not a static leadership role--it's an opportunity to make a transformative impact in a rapidly evolving landscape where creativity, strategic thinking, and entrepreneurial drive are essential.
The ideal candidate will thrive amid the excitement of growth and change, bringing a passion for philanthropy, a talent for relationship-building, and the ability to navigate some unknowns as we continue expanding our donor engagement strategies. They will work closely with top hospital and academic leaders, department chairs, and faculty, aligning fundraising initiatives with institutional priorities while driving results through data-informed strategies.
This role requires a leader who can embrace complexity, push boundaries, and energize a team in an environment that is both demanding and rewarding. If you're a visionary fundraiser ready to take on an exciting challenge, this is your opportunity to be at the forefront of something extraordinary.
The Assistant Dean for Development, reporting to the Associate Dean for Development, will lead a growing team of grateful patient and alumni gift officers, setting strategic direction and ensuring that ambitious fundraising goals are established and achieved. In this role, as a key driver of our institution's premier donor strategies, they will pursue goal-oriented outcomes, demonstrate entrepreneurial and creative thinking, and cultivate a deep passion for the transformative impact of philanthropy on an academic medical center campus within an integrated academic health medical system. This position not only involves developing and implementing work plans to drive major gift fundraising success and aligning efforts with institutional priorities but also providing guidance and oversight to a growing team. They will analyze performance metrics, prepare leadership reports, and recommend innovative strategies for growth. Additionally, they will develop a comprehensive faculty, staff, and leadership engagement program, collaborating with hospital leaders, department chairs, and directors of programs, centers, and institutes to encourage their involvement in fundraising activities and to foster a culture of philanthropy at the University of Maryland Medicine. Motivated by mission and energized by the opportunity to achieve ambitious goals, the Assistant Dean will bring a proven track record of cultivating a culture that values creativity, inclusiveness, and high performance.
