Description
Our goal is to develop advanced methods for assessing cell response to tissue-engineering scaffolds. Biomaterials are commonly used as 3D scaffolds and cells behave more physiologically when cultured in a 3D environment. This project will focus on the development of systematic, reliable methods for screening cell behavior during culture in scaffolds. Methods may include advanced imaging modalities (3D methods), combinatorial/high-throughput methods, omics approaches, multivariate analyses and animal models (with collaborators at NIH). Emphasis will be placed on 3D imaging and methods for assessing differentiation of human stem cells down desired lineages. The development of these techniques will provide the means to reliably screen tissue scaffolds to support cell function.
