Are you passionate about sustainability and enjoy hands-on, active work? UAF Recycling is looking for a reliable, motivated team member to help collect, sort, and transport recyclable materials across campus. This is a physically active, outdoor position that offers variety, independence, and the chance to make a real impact on campus waste reduction efforts. If you’re detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and ready to work in all seasons, we want to hear from you! This hands-on position supports campus recycling operations by collecting, sorting, and transporting recyclable materials. It involves driving, equipment operation, and outdoor work in all seasons. The role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently, with a strong focus on sustainability and waste reduction.

Reliability and independence – Able to manage daily routes and tasks with minimal supervision.

Physical stamina – Comfortable lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds repeatedly and working outdoors year-round.

Attention to detail – Carefully sorting materials and identifying contaminants to maintain high recycling quality.

Strong communication skills – Clear, respectful interaction with campus partners and team members.

Mechanical aptitude – Willingness to learn and safely operate equipment like a glass pulverizer and perform basic vehicle maintenance.

Organizational skills – Keeping supplies well-stocked and workspaces tidy.

Commitment to sustainability – A genuine interest in environmental stewardship and waste reduction.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicant must be enrolled as a UAF student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student. Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday.

This is a Student Assistant 2 Position, minimum starting pay is $14.96 per hour. 

This recruitment is open to undergraduate students only.

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.
