We are looking for a motivated PhD student to join the Marine Symbiosis group of Prof. Jillian Petersen.

The Centre of Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science is comprised of 15 groups that conduct internationally leading research in the field of microbial ecology and environmental systems science. The Centre's Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science assembles an international, ambitious and committed team and offers an interdisciplinary scientific environment, cutting-edge laboratories and a creative working atmosphere.
The PhD student will be part of the Marine Symbiosis group under the supervision of Prof. Jillian Petersen. The successful candidate will conduct research, experiments and write research papers on plant and animal-microbe interactions with a strong focus on sulfur-oxidizing bacteria.
Your future tasks:
- Visualization of sulfur-oxidizing symbionts using fluorescence and chemical imaging (i.e. NanoSIMS)
- Field- and laboratory experiments
- Data analysis
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences
- Supervision of trainees and students
This is part of your personality:
- A Master’s degree in Microbiology or a related field.
- First experience in fluorescence imaging, experience of marine field work would be an advantage
- A proactive, curious, and independent thinker who is motivated to push the boundaries of knowledge.
- The ability to work effectively in a collaborative, international research environment.

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.
