Job Purpose
To provide an on-demand and efficient fetching service for users of Archives & Special Collections. To participate in the ongoing programme of stock maintenance of some of the University’s most important research collections.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Identify and fetch out stock requested by readers from bookstack and other secure areas to reading room.
2. Re-shelve stock in bookstacks and check & tidy shelves, including participating in a regular programme of stock checking.
3. Identify and fetch out items for teaching classes/displays in advance.
4. Assist in the ongoing programme of shelf and book cleaning.
5. Assist with stock movement within department and deliver/collect items from other library departments (eg. the Photographic Unit & Conservation Studio).
6. File manual book slips and complete statistical and other relevant forms.
7. Other miscellaneous tasks as required, e.g. assembly of archival boxes/ envelopes
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Framework Level 3 in English and Mathematics [National 3] or equivalent.
Skills
Essential:
C1 A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
C2 Ability to work on own (unsupervised) and as part of a team. C3 A flexible approach to work.
C4 Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills. C5 Good level of manual dexterity.
C6 Good level of fitness. C7 Basic keyboard skills.
C8 Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
Desirable:
D1 Basic manual handling skills.
D2 Ability to organise own workload, so as to meet required targets accurately**.**
Experience
Essential:
E1 Experience of working in a team environment.
Desirable:
F1 Experience of working in a library environment.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 2, £23,028 per annum.
This post is part time (21 hrs p/week) and fixed term for 12 months from start date

This post is part time (21 hours per week) and fixed term for up to 12 months from agreed start date.
