Following a generous gift from the Sanjaya Lall Memorial Fund, the University invites applications for the Sanjaya Lall Visiting Professorship in Business and Development. This is an outstanding opportunity for a world-leading academic in the fields of Economics, Business and Development, broadly defined, to join the Oxford community for Trinity Term 2026 (26 April 2026 to 20 June 2026). Recent postholders include Abhijit Banerjee, Paul Krugman, Dani Rodrik, Paul Vaaler, Robert Wade, Esther Duflo and Daron Acemoglu. 

The successful candidate will have an outstanding international reputation in scholarship and research, and will be intellectually eminent in the fields of Economics, Business or Development. In the spirit of Sanjaya Lall, the successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to adapt theory to understand novel research questions and methodologies, and should also show a strong flair for formulating strategic policy responses. The Visiting Professor will be invited to engage with faculty and students in the Oxford community throughout their visit. They will deliver at least one public lecture and be invited to participate in seminars, workshops and conferences in the Social Sciences Division and St John’s College. 

The Visiting Professor will be resident in Oxford for Trinity Term 2026, and will be hosted by a department in the Social Sciences Division. A stipend of £50,000 is payable.
