Research Associate - FTC (2 posts, one must be BSL fluent)

Updated: 2 months ago
Location: Wolverhampton, ENGLAND
Job Type: Contract

Research Associate 2 part-time posts- with one being a confident BSL user.

We are seeking two talented and ambitious researchers to join the Institute for Community Research and Development to work with a multidisciplinary team (Criminology, Interpreting and Translation, and Policing) on an AHRC funded research project.

The Institute for Community Research and Development (ICRD) was established in 2017 to undertake applied research that drives policy developments, delivers effective community-based transformational projects, and promotes social mobility.

Since 2023, a team within the ICRD has been working on a pilot study exploring the experiences of professionals working in a domestic abuse (DA) or deaf-specific support service/charity in supporting D/deaf individuals to access support for DA, report incidents to the police, and pursue cases through the Criminal Justice System (CJS). Here we found that D/deaf victims of DA often experience significant barriers in the form of extensive delays and a lack of awareness of their communication needs.

We have recently been successful in gaining funding from the AHRC to extend this project; first to explore the role of technology as a tool to facilitate better access and support through such systems, and secondly, to expand the pilot by conducting research with D/deaf victims of DA themselves, as well as working with the West Midlands Police to gain a better understanding of their experiences and views of supporting such victims within this context.

We welcome applications from excellent candidates who can contribute to this research project. To be considered for this Research Associate post you will be an experienced, trained researcher, qualified to postgraduate level in one or more of the following academic disciplines (or similar): psychology, public health, criminal justice, criminology, interpreting and translation, and/or policing.

We are looking to recruit x2 0.5 FTE Research Associates, with one being a fluent BSL (British Sign Language) user.

You will be required to work independently and as part of a team to undertake tasks such as conducting a literature review, liaising and networking with participants and project partners, collecting and analysing data (using qualitative methodologies), and contributing to outputs and dissemination activities (skills spanning all stages of the research-project cycle)
