The post is based in the Department of Natural Sciences, a large, successful and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. It is committed to achieving high-quality teaching, research and knowledge exchange spanning the disciplines of Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science and Geography. The Department has over 100 members of academic staff and delivers courses to over 1000 students across Undergraduate, and Postgraduate programmes. The REF 2021 outcome has confirmed our strong reputation as one of the leading centres for researchimpact in Environmental Sciences. Out of 40 departments in the country, we rank as fifth place nationally for ourresearchimpact, with 100% of ourresearchimpact rated as outstanding (75%) or having very considerableimpact (25%). The Department is committed to improving further the quality and volume of research.
About the role
The Research Associate (Carbon Literacy)will undertake applied research and knowledge exchange support to colleagues by assisting, and where necessary taking the lead, in the further development of the CarbonLiteracytraining project.
You will work closely with the CarbonLiteracy team to conduct applied research in support of the CarbonLiteracytraining project, such as evaluatingtraining needs and the outcomes of training programmes, providing assistance and where necessary taking the leadwithresearch data collection and analysis, and the dissemination of findings to appropriate groups related to the project through seminars, conferences, and publication in academic journals and reports, in order to further the institution's standing in the Higher Education and researchcommunity and contribute to the development of new areas in the field of CarbonLiteracy and climate change education.
You will be expected to make a direct contribution to CarbonLiteracy, an area of existing applied research and knowledge exchange strength within the University. In particular, you will be required to undertake researchevaluatingtraining needs and the outcomes of internal and external training programmes using a mixed methods approach and will take responsibility for the management of discrete research projects as directed by the project co-ordinator.
You will undertake quality research and detailed analysis, and present findings to appropriate internal and external groups, such as conferences or seminars and will produce research reports, high quality journal publications and other impact related outcomes.
You willparticipate in the development of internal and external partnerships and networks in order to disseminateinformation, share best practice, generate income, establish opportunities for collaborative work, and to enhance the reputation of the University.
