About us

This post is based at the Department of Psychological Medicine, which is the largest department in the IoPPN and focuses on the interface between psychiatry and medicine, psychiatry and occupation, psychiatry and the military, and psychiatry in different settings. The Diabetes and Mental Health Research group has excellent links with nursing, medicine and women’s health.

About the role

This part-time Research Assistant will work across projects on diabetes with a particular focus on the study of psychological outcomes in women with and without gestational diabetes mellitus: a prospective cohort design (SPROUT). Depending on capacity, the postholder may have the opportunity to support subject recruitment in other projects within the team.  

The post holder has the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of the study, including subject recruitment and collection of clinical and other data on patients.

This post will be offered on a part-time, (50% FTE) contract until 31st March 2026.

About you

Essential criteria

  • Undergraduate degree in psychology or diabetes related subject
  • Background knowledge or interest in either women’s health, diabetes, or psychology
  • Experience in successful participant recruitment
  • Competence in quantitative data entry
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of patients and colleagues
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, including ability to work to and meet deadlines and flexibility in working hours
  • Competence in conducting basic statistics
  •  Desirable criteria

  • Experience in working with NHS settings
  • Experience in writing and publishing research papers in peer review journals

    Grade and Salary: £38,482 - £40,116 pro rata, including London Weighting Allowance
