The Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge is offering a Postdoctoral Researcher position to work on collaborative projects with Dr. Hong Ge at the Computational and Biological Learning Lab, along with the Alan Turing Institute, the MRC Biostatistics Unit, and the Stan community.
The position is based in Central Cambridge, UK.
The project synthesises and advances insights from modern Bayesian modelling frameworks such as Stan, Turing.jl, and PyMC, including automatic differentiation frameworks, MCMC sampling algorithms, and iterative Bayesian modelling. Special attention will be given to computationally intensive components, including ordinary and stochastic differential equations, and non-parametric components like Gaussian Processes.
The project builds on the following key publications:
- TE Fjelde, K Xu, D Widmann, M Tarek, C Pfiffer, M Trapp, SD Axen, X Sun, M Hauru, P Yong, W Tebbutt, Z Ghahramani, H Ge (2025). Turing.jl: A general-purpose probabilistic programming language. ACM Transactions on Probabilistic Machine Learning.
- A Gelman, A Vehtari, D Simpson, CC Margossian, B Carpenter, Y Yao, L Kennedy, J Gabry, PC Bürkner, M Modrák (2020). Bayesian Workflow.
- B Carpenter, A Gelman, MD Hoffman, D Lee, B Goodrich, M Betancourt, M Brubaker, J Guo, P Li, A Riddell (2017). Stan: A probabilistic programming language. JOSS.
